TODAY'S DEVOTION:    August 12, 2020

ARE YOU THE PROBLEM OR

THE SOLUTION?

"But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison."

James 3:8 (KJV)

Reflection:

Have you ever heard of the Bob principle?

The Bob principle says that wherever Bob goes, there is a problem. There are issues and fighting in each place, so he leaves convinced that everyone else is the problem.

What Bob fails to see is that he is really the problem.

James spoke to this in

James chapter 3.

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”

(James 3:5-6).

It’s amazing how much destruction our words can do.

Our words can encourage and help others grow in their knowledge and love of Christ.

But they can also destroy like a fire.

Wherever we go, we open our mouths, and it burns those around us and our own very lives.

Criticism is a fire that, if left undealt with, will destroy your relationships and even your life.

A better way of living is by asking God to take control of your words.

This includes social media, your texts, the water cooler conversations, and anything in between.

When do you find it easiest to criticize others?

Why?

How will you give God control over your tongue?

We don’ have the ability to control our tongue, but thankfully, God does. Ask him for help today.

Prayer:

Father, I know You are the source of all good things, including words. Help me today to be a source of life and hope through all my words. I pray to You, in Jesus Name, Amen.
